So what even is this movie?

It's a film from 2006 that was made in Britain about the death of President George W. Bush in a rockumentary style format. Tha fuck?

I'm 1/3 of the way through it while writing this and this fucking movie is insane. He was still President for another 2 years after this came out, if only it was later they could have pulled a N. Korea with the Interview and gotten the NSA to hack targets in the Britain. Oh wait, they were but more for funsies. There is no way the Secret Service didn't interview these guys, even a passing joke about assassinating the POTUS and they will come knocking.

It's got GWB speech writer as a talking head, there are massive protests everywhere following Bush to events, it's cute give the last 10 years. Also the director says this was in no way political, it was about the events and aftermath of a President getting assassinated. They just happened to make it about the sitting President and not a former one.

Also besides talking heads they used actual footage from GWB events so an actress is portraying a speech writer of a speech written by a real speech writer somewhere. Some of it's a little funny but they are playing it somewhat "straight" but it's just so absurd. I am really excited for the assassination, they mention on wikipedia that special effects were used multiple times so I'm stoked for the ~2005 CGI murder scene.

Apparently all the actors/actresses that appear in this movie except for specific scenes related to his death were not told what this was exactly either. So the fake speech writer playing a character and talking about how she wrote real speeches we are seeing from footage doesn't know Bush is going to die.

They also apparently used a video containing a real Iraqi getting killed by a bullet, they apparently grabbed B-roll from actual war footage or something so that's fucked up.

The theaters in the US mostly boycott the film, politicians were outraged at the audacity of it.

It's shot about as good as a student film, not a bad one but it's definitely weird lit for the talking heads, probably blew all the budget on the sick CGI coming up. Anyway those are my not half way through this movie thoughts on "Death of a President", only on Tubi(for another 4 days so not after 04/02/2026.

They dubbed a Cheney voice actor during GWB wake, used actual footage from Cheney I think at Reagan's funeral. Also they used other shots from Reagan's funeral. This shit is unhinged and I love it.

The image below is from a scene where one of the FBI talking heads walks down the hall to not even have real dialog but look like he chatted with the other two before walking away while he narrates what''s happening. The set looks put together in 30 mins and it's also poorly lit, they need some lamps in some places and to turn down the bright light on the other side. I bet the fair skinned actors had a half tan by the end of the shooting.

So there is a bit of weird pro-Patriot act propaganda now and the middle eastern/muslim bigotry is pretty sustained. It's usually subtle like just using video of a person in a head scarves walk down the street to portray a potential terrorist,. sometimes it's fairly obvious like the talking heads will say some conservative "nice" racist shit.

They are taking this weirdly seriously still playing it straight, I don't know if the funny bits are intentional or just the straight man absurdism is really hitting.
